Other things to try
This page was last updated on 09 February,

If there are no detailed instructions for your make and model of
PNA, one of these approaches may work.
- Some PNAs are starting to appear with a 'settings' tool
that allows you to add XCSoar and/or LK8000 to an application
launcher menu. If yours has one, use it!
- Download the MioPocket
package. It is a front end for Windows CE-based devices, mainly
GPS navigation devices. It is an installable package of
programs, scripts, registry files and skins to "unlock" PNA/GPS
devices. I discovered how to install LK8000 on Binatone B350
PNAs running Windows Mobile 6 merely by reading the
installation notes for MioPocket. That told me how to set up
the shell.ini file and so I didn't need to install
MioPocket on my PNA. The GpsPasSion forum provides
support for MioPocket.
- You can always try the directions for another type of PNA.
You can't harm your satnav: the worst that can happen is that
the name isn't one its looking for and XCSoar and/or LK8000
will be ignored.
- An internet search with the name and model of your PNA is
worthwhile. There are user forums for many of them and lots of
their owners are interested in running all manner of unusual
programs on their machine. One of them may have posted the
information you need.
- If you're stuck and there's a firmware or map upgrade or an
inexpensive add-on map available on an SD card, it may be worth
getting it. Several PNAs use extra maps direct from the SD card
rather than installing them. These all appear to work by
launching a program on the card, so its worth finding out what
name the program(s) and directory containing them have on the
SD card. Its a safe bet that renaming the XCSoar executable to
match will cause it to boot. There's often a clue in the names
of files on the card. For examples where this approach has worked,
look at the directions used to install LK8000 or XCSoar on a
Navigon 8110 or a Viamichelin X-970.
Finally...
If any of these approaches work for you please let me know what worked so I can add your
experience to this page for the benefit of other glider
pilots.
