George Wayne Gregorie (1836 - 1926), second son of David William Gregorie, was born in London on March 25, 1836. Unlike his better known elder brother Major-General Charles Frederick Gregorie, George Wayne chose the Royal Navy as a career.
He served as gunnery officer, with the rank of lieutenant, in various ships. While serving in HMS Juno he took part in the evacuation of the Pitcairn Islanders to Norfolk Island. He retired from the navy in 1836.
In 1860 he married Eliza Sarah Harwood (1835-1859). He died, aged 90, on October 9, 1926.
George and Eliza Gregorie had five children: George Harwood, Mabel Annie, Eleanor Millicent, Constance Mary and Frank St Barbe. Of these, only Frank St Barbe had children.
Frank St Barbe Gregorie (1869-1949), married Beatrice Mary Swan (d. 1933) in 1904. They had two children, David Clayton Harwood (1905-1963) and Evelyn Mary (b. 1926).
David Clayton Harwood Gregorie, the only son of Frank St Barbe Gregorie, was born on February 7, 1905. He married Mary Joyce Goodchild in 1934 and they had two children, Timothy Harwood MacDonald (b.1935-) and Pamela Mary, b. 4 Nov 1938). He died on October 28, 1963.
Timothy Harwood MacDonald Gregorie, the only son of David Clayton Harwood Gregorie, was born on July 15, 1935. He married Wilhelmina (Mieneke) Johanna Bot about 1960.
They have two children, Timothy Harwood (b. 1 Jun 1962) and James Harwood (b. 25 May 1964).
There has been no contact between the New Zealand branch and the English branch of the Gregories for some time.
