Current timers
Here are some currently available (April 2010) timers:
- The MTK timer, developed by
Mikhail Kocharev and Sergey Makarov. This timer can drive one
or two servos and is programmed from a Palm Pilot PDA.
- The Multiclass timer (see below under F1C).
- The RedMagic is a reprogrammed BlackMagic timer developed by
Roger Morell and Viktor
Stamov for F1A and F1H gliders. This timer can drive up to
three servos and is programmed from a Palm Pilot PDA.
- The BlackMagic
timer from Roger Morell is about the best of breed for F1B
and other rubber models. Roger is a well-known West Coast F1B
flier and was in the US Wakefield team for 2001.
- If you intend to use RCDT then the Sidus F1B timer is worth a close look
because it integrates an RCDT capability into the timer and its
control unit.
- Best of breed here is the MultiClass timer, which also has
the longest track record of any F1C timer. It was developed by
Torleif Jensen and Thomas
Koster for F1C and F1A. Torleif has worked with Thomas on F1C
timers since the beginning and with the Nyhegns and Pieter de
Boer on F1A timers since the early 90s. The latest versions are
programmed from a Palm Pilot. These timers are now made by
Christoph Bachmann in Switzerland.
- The Sidus F1C timers and
Mogle F1C timers are the ones to use
if you want to replace the four or five function Seelig in an
existing model with an electronic timer.
- The Sidus F1C timer can also
be supplied as a drop-in replacement for mechanical timers in
Babenko or Verbitsky models: this version uses the original
levers.
- If you intend to use RCDT then the Sidus F1C timer deserves a close look
because this capability is built into the timer and its control
unit.
There is a good choice of F1Q timers available. These include
everything from simple self-contained devices that only provide
motor and d/t timing up to timers that use a BEC equipped ESC as
power source and motor control, are capable of driving up to
three servos and provide an integrated RCDT capability. The
